Originally a Lycian town that excelled in fishing, and diving for sponges and boat masters, including building and sailing, which now has become a hub for a luxury yacht charter. As the region saw many different groups attempting to conquer the other cities and towns there is always history to be found, Fethiye has some of the best ruins that can be found preserved amongst the homes and modern builds. Sarcophagi are preserved with roads parting either side, castles left untouched apart from new flags, with some of the ruins being rebuilt in traditional styles and methods to recreate the ancient structure. Fethiye’s harbor is a perfect place to relax, enjoy a traditional Turkish coffee or tea known as cay, and watch the people and various boats and yachts pass by. The cliff faces surrounding the downtown area are both stunning with the different hues of rock and a unique chance to view a giant nobility tomb carved directly into the rock.
