Bozukkale

Bozukkale is a well-sheltered inlet from the ocean and a popular refuge spot for any passing yacht charters. Just out of Marmaris this large bay lies between Kale Burnu and Degirmen Burnu. It is also a layover port for those heading north. From the entrance of the bay, you can still see the remains of an ancient citadel that provide some impressive views. The walls of the historical city of Loryma embrace the port. You might have some trouble identifying them as they blend into the rocky cape. From within the city walls, explore the castle ruins or the ruins of any of the nine temples scattered about. They are still in relatively good condition. Along the bay, there are a few restaurants, their speciality being the fresh fish with a side of home-baked bread. If you are there in the morning or late afternoon, take a hike following the rough path to get a fabulous view of the bay and the castle itself. The castle is positioned directly opposite the ancient Greek city of Rhodes, which some speculate that it was built by Rhodian craftsmen trying to deny the safe harbour to enemy fleets.

If you want to be enchanted by any other bays or sea-facing places in Turkey, travellers make their way to Kumlubuk Bay, Dirsekbuku and Cennet Island.
